A much better night...

The difference between the old me and the new me, is that the old me would have woken up today saw the news and said, "92 degrees today? Fugghedaboudit! I'll run tomorrow (of course the old, old me, would have just eaten a Philly Cheesesteak in honor of it). But the new me doesn't do this.

Tonight, I was suppose to go with Ileana to, of all things, join my ex and her husband to go see The Cars play at the Westbury Music Fair. At the last minute though, the original people that were going to cancel were able to go. In a way, I was actually relieved. Not because of what you think though. I have no problems socializing with my ex. In fact, despite the nightmare of a divorce that I went through and the ensuing year after that, it was out of friendship that I decided that it was time that we split before our relationship would have turned to one of anger and bitterness.

What really relieved me was the fact that I would have probably succumed to peer pressure and would have made good friends with Mr. Coors who was planning to attend the concert himself and place himself in my hand or left cupholder, as the case usually is for one of these events. Instead, I had an evening to do good. And that's exactly what I attempted to do tonight.

Instead of coming home and just doing nothing, I went to the gym, and did about 30 minutes of upper body (abs, arms, etc). And I wasn't even finished.

After getting home, I continued my physical education by heading out of the apartment and into Forest Hills Gardens for a wonderful night's run. It was about 83 degrees, but it was breezy, and the sun had turned in for the evening.

The run through the private residential area was beyond spooky. The streets, all dead, no cars in sight. And as I was running back, the last half of Song 8 by Sigur Ros was playing in my ears, sending chills up my spine....

I made sure to take my time however, and paid close attention to my left leg, which was overly sore from my race a couple of days ago. It held up well. In fact, I extended my run by doing several laps around Austin & Talbot streets in Kew Gardens at the end of my run.

Sleep-wise, I am not nearly as good this week as I was last week. Calorie-wise, though, I did a killer day today (especially compared to last night's last minute downfall). I should probably lose weight for my weigh-in tomorrow morning. I decided that my optimal goal will be 145. No more. No less.

....................................................................................................................
3 more days till my big non-event race. 10,000 runners, and about 250,000 spectators.....
